In the coming months, Central begins the important, intensive, and critical work of selecting elders who will serve as leaders of the church in 2009. The process will follow the guidelines established in the church bylaws.
The procedure for selecting elders at Central is not an election. It is a process of selection under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The role of the congregation is to identify and communicate to the existing Elder Board potential candidates for eldership.
The role of the Elder board is to prayerfully investigate, qualify, and select candidates to become new elders.
Scripture teaches us that the elders are the overseers of the church (Acts 20:28-31, 1 Peter 5:1-3, Hebrews 13:17). The eldership is a great responsibility. The leaders needed are not ones who desire honor, but who are servants.
Scriptural Qualifications
The scriptural qualifications of eldership are found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1:5-9:
If you know someone that you feel led to nominate because of his scriptural qualifications, please complete the ballot, available at Information Central, and return it to the ballot box at Information Central no later than Sunday, August 24. Nominate only people that, to the best of your knowledge, meet every scriptural qualification and have demonstrated a passionate heart for ministry.
